WATERFORD CITY AND COUNTY COUNCIL – Suite of Four Tourism Guides

Waterford is filled with historic sites and lush green river valleys, a stunning coastline and a vibrant city. For years Waterford City and County Council (WCCC) have been promoting everything the county has to offer and practical tourism guides have proven to be a successful approach, which Red Heaven Design has been a part of at the ground level.

A suite of tourism guides grew from an initial request to create “Walk Waterford”, a piece to promote Waterford’s natural heritage by means of twenty way-marked walking trails that provide the outdoor enthusiast, both local and tourist, with all the information needed when visiting identified scenic spots.

A logo was also designed to accompany the guide and act not only as a brand identity but also as a trail-head identifier that visitors could follow as they voyaged from trail to trail.

Since the initial ‘Walk Waterford’ guide, Red Heaven has produced three additional guides: ‘Historic Waterford’, ‘Architectural Waterford’ and ‘Waterford Garden Trails’ each with an allied logo (Architectural Waterford the exception)

and implementing a ‘folded map’ solution and a die cut wallet, which protects the folded piece when stored in your pocket, bag or car.

This was the most efficient way of getting all information onto one piece of paper while remaining easy to use and simple to orientate.

Together the suite of guides is quite congruent as each colour in the palette was strategically chosen for its harmony with the others. That said, each piece stands rather well on its own and unmistakably emphasises Waterford’s tourism initiative.
