THE WATERFORD SHIPPING DISASTER 1917 – Exhibition & Booklet

On 27th December 1917 the Clyde Shipping Company Limited wrote a letter to families throughout Waterford and beyond to confirm their worst fears by stating that all hope was now lost for the return of two Waterford steamships – the SS Formby and the SS Coningbeg.

The Waterford Shipping Disaster 1917, as this tragedy was to become known as, is a publication (downloadable from the WCCC website) and a travelling exhibition created by Waterford City & County Council with assistance from the Heritage Council, using archived content from the National Library of Ireland and surviving family members of the crew and passengers.
