KNOCKANORE FARMHOUSE CHEESE

The Lonergan Family have been making award winning cheese on their family farm in Knockanore, West Waterford, since 1987 using raw unpasteurised milk from their pedigree herd of cows. We were very excited to be approached by Eamonn Lonergan to refresh the company brand design and product packaging.

Eamonns reason for the brand refresh came from his interactions with customers and learning that although they were familiar with the Knockanore Farmhouse Cheese brand and have a high regard for the excellent products, they found the current logo and labels to be somewhat dated.

The brief for the project was to update the company logo to a more contemporary and more customer friendly solution and to insure it was transferable to all products.

Following Q&A sessions with the Knockanore team regarding future aspirations for the brand we set about reviewing their current branding, the packaging design and labels, how the products are displayed in shops and how they perform visually alongside their competitors. Further discussions on our findings had ‘recognisable at a glance’ and ‘legibility – in terms of product display – as touch points to be included in the final solution.

The graphic design process went through multiple rounds of iterations where the client was a central part of whittling down the ideas we came up with, until finally deciding on what they were most happiest with and they felt met their brief.

The Land – The Herd – The Artisan
The Knockanore Farmhouse Cheese brand identity is based on three elements that are the foundations of the premium cheese they have been making for over thirty yearThe combination of all three as a graphic identity gave us the touch points we desired – contemporary, customer friendly, recognisable at a glance and legible. Plus the final iteration gave us the opportunity to create a unique label shaped around the identity which looked very well on the products.

Colour palette for the labels were inspired by the products themselves and complimentary when used with the pouch the wedges or wheels are sealed in. Additional print collateral materials for promotion were created as well as aprons to be worn at the renowned Salon du Fromage exhibition in Paris and the updating of the clients website.
